Andrew McRae

Chartered Associate Financial Planner

Aberdeen

When did you join Acumen Financial Planning?
I joined Acumen Financial Planning in June 2019.

Can you provide a brief overview of your career journey?
My journey with Acumen began in December 2018 when I was invited to spend a week gaining work experience. I was impressed by the company’s culture and the dynamic nature of financial planning.

In June 2019 I officially joined Acumen as a Financial Planning Administrator after finishing school. In February 2022, I transitioned into the Paraplanning Team, where I supported planners in both the Acumen and Medical and Dental team.

In June 2024, I achieved chartered status, becoming the youngest person in Scotland to reach this milestone at 23 years old.

Most recently, in January 2025, I progressed to my current role as an Associate Planner.

What are your main responsibilities in your role at Acumen Financial Planning?
Having just joined the planning team in Aberdeen, I am continuing to work with Rhian Morgan closely and the rest of the Aberdeen Office helping clients on their financial journey. Additionally, I take an active role in mentoring, working with schools and student placements to encourage young talent to consider a career in financial planning.

Do you have any unique hobbies or interests?
I’ve represented Scotland internationally in table tennis at the junior level and continue to compete nationally. I’m also a keen runner – when I manage to brave Aberdeen’s weather!

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
“Tell people what you want – how else will they know if you don’t?”
