Evan Duffus

Chartered Financial Planner

Aberdeen

Previously employed by the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) as a Senior Business Financial Planning Manager, Evan joined our Aberdeen office in December 2012.

A Chartered Financial Planner, Evan sets up clients in their early 40’s with a plan for achieving financial independence when they want to. He also transitions clients from work to life after work, bringing together their assets and structuring them in such a way as to meet their living costs and any other objectives and goals they have set.

In his spare time, Evan enjoys playing golf, reading and spectating and following horse racing.

What do you like most about working at Acumen Financial Planning?

“That there are no egos here. There is a team ethos where help, guidance, and sharing problems are everyday aspects of work. AFP is willing to invest in the development of its staff by supporting them to achieve professional qualifications.

“It is a professional, ethical place to work. Since I have worked here, not one person has asked me, “where is your next piece of business coming from?” There are no targets, simply an expectation that by servicing clients properly, business and income will develop naturally.”

What has been your proudest career achievement to date?

“Achieving Chartered status in 2019. Passing all those exams (first time!) meant many Sundays in the office studying and time away from my family. However, to get the Chartered badge is worth it – I feel more respected and confident in my role.”

Tell us one thing that people would be surprised to find out about you.

“I am a coach for my son Calum’s football team – Formartine United 2013. This gives me some time on a Friday evening with other dads and kids to train and prepare for a match on a Sunday. A great way to wind down after a busy week at work.”

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

“Listen more, talk less. My father used to tell me this as a kid, and strangely this advice is beneficial considering the job I do now.”
